Alonso: First goal was key

Xabi Alonso insists that Real Madrid’s first goal was the key as Los Blancos cruised to a 3-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League.

Real now sit atop the summit of Group C with maximum points after two games.

"The first goal provided the victory," Alonso told TeleMadrid.

Three goals in seven minutes in the second half were just what Los Merengues needed to complete the win as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice while Kaka rounded out the scoring. Alonso is happy that he has such talented colleagues to share the field with.

"It's good to work with a team that has individuals like Cristiano, Kaka and [Karim] Benzema,' he added before saying that qualification to the knockout phase is by no means secure for Real yet.

"It's still way ahead but the two games against Milan are very important to ensure qualification," he said.
