Player Ratings for Milan-Real Madrid

ESPNSTAR.com brings you the player ratings for the AC Milan-Real Madrid game that took place at the San Siro.

By Vincent Lai

Karim Benzema took what was probably his only chance of the game well, pouncing on Dida's block on Kaka's attempt to break his scoring duck for Los Blancos, only for Ronaldinho to equalise for the home side as Pepe was ruled to have scythed down Marco Borriello in the box.

AC Milan:

Dida: 6

Did well enough in the match, which in 'Dida' terms, means that he failed to fumble the ball. Wasn't at fault as Benzema pounced on his block off a Kaka stinger to score.

Massimo Oddo: 5

Didn't have the best of games as he was skinned regularly by Kaka, Benzema and Higuain.

Alessandro Nesta: 5

Wasn't at his best as Kaka ran rings around him, and was missing in action as Benzema tucked the ball past his goalie.

Thiago Silva: 5

Another defender that performed below standard. Disappointing game from the Brazilian.

Gianluca Zambrotta: 6

Wasn't convincing in defending, but did well enough bombing down the flank in support of his midfield.

Andrea Pirlo: 6

Pulled the strings from deep, and even had two shots saved by Casillas from distance.

Clarence Seedorf: 7

Showed he had plenty of gas left in the tank as he took on Kaka and Diarra with gusto, and manhandled the young'uns with ease. Combined well with Ronaldinho to terrorize Real's defence.

Massimo Ambrosini: 6

Played a pedestrian game by his standards, but did direct enough balls to Ronaldinho and Pato.

Alexandre Pato: 7

Was lively upfront, and should have scored but his goal was waved off by the referee for an alleged hand-ball (which was a major referee error).

Ronaldinho: 7

Was a joy to watch as he showed flashed as to why he was once regarded as the most talented player in the world. Found Pato with ease on through-balls, and even back-heeled twice in a series of one-twos with Seedorf on one occasion. Blasted the ball past Casillas to score Milan's equaliser after Borriello was brought down by Pepe.

Marco Borriello: 7 (off 79th)

Worked his socks off, but could not replicate his two-goal heroics against Parma. Earned Milan's penalty goal on one of his many cuts into Real's box.

Subs:

Filippo Inzaghi: 6 (on 79th)

Was a pain in Real's side, but was clearly two or three steps off.

Real Madrid:

Iker Casillas: 6

Had a night of minimal fuss, but could not do anything to stop Ronaldinho's rocket from bulging the net.

Sergio Ramos: 7

Was a constant thorn in Milan's side as he bombed frequently down the right flank, even testing Dida with a volley that was just inches wide. Faded away in the second half though.

Raul Albiol: 6

Steady in both attack and defence, but didn't really excel in anything throughout the night.

Pepe: 5

Argued with the referees constantly, and even gave away the penalty for Milan's equaliser. The Portuguese stopper, however, fared better than Milan's famed defence by comparison.

Alvaro Arbeloa: 5

Overlapped constantly, but didn't do much when he was in an advanced position.

Lassana Diarra: 6

Battled tooth and nail with 'old man' Seedorf. Laboured to win Real possession to start their many attacks.

Xabi Alonso: 5

Didn't feature prominent in the game, but appeared out of nowhere to take corners, set pieces, and water breaks.

Kaka: 7

Was Los Merengues' main driving force on the offensive end. Threatened the Rossoneri with his constant dribbling into the Milan penalty area, and tested Dida many times, one of which fell to Benzema.

Karim Benzema: 7 (off 82nd)

Took his fox-in-the-box goal well as he pounced to break his Real Madrid scoring duck. Could not get going otherwise.

Marcelo: 6

Many tricks, little end product.

Gonzalo Higuain: 5 (off 74th)

Winner of the "there-must-be-one-guy-who-must-play-anonymously" award.

Subs:

Raul: 6 (on 74th)

Plenty of running, nothing to show for it.

Ruud van Nistelrooy: 5 (on 82nd)

"There-must-be-one-guy-who-must-play-anonymously".
