Porto vs Chelsea Preview

Captain John Terry insists Chelsea are becoming feared once more as leads his side through an important 11-day period.

Terry, who leads Chelsea out for the 300th time as captain in the Champions League clash at Porto tomorrow, wants the Blues to rise to the challenge and get through four games without a blemish.

Victory over Porto will earn Chelsea first place in Group D but Terry is also casting his eye over two Premier League blockbusters against Arsenal and Manchester City as well as a quarter-final Carling Cup tie against Blackburn.

Some of his international colleagues have already told Terry that, under Ancelotti, Chelsea are becoming a side to be feared again and the England captain is prepared for real battle over the next 11 days.

"We know here what it takes to win major titles, and we need to produce that now," said Terry.

"It's four away games in a row. That's the challenge major title-winning teams rise to.

"Porto in the Champions League. If we win, we win the group with a game to go. Not many teams win in Porto but we can do it."

The home side are a real force on their own turf but Terry is banking on the Chelsea squad to dig deep and come out on top.

"At the moment a lot of big sides are not only struggling to qualify but to come top of their group," added Terry.

"It could mean a lot of big sides finishing runner-up and the advantage could be the other way round this year. But from our point of view, we want to win every game and we want to finish top of the group.

"It is a difficult place to come. They pose a real threat going forward. They play with a lot of confidence and tomorrow will be tougher than maybe a lot of people think."

Jesualdo Ferreira is quietly confident his Porto side have all the qualities to prevail.

Ferreira's side have only lost to Chelsea so far in Europe and now trail the Blues by just a single point going into the final two games.

The coach's steely determination is at odds with his side's current league form.

They lie third in the Portuguese league but a draw with struggling Belenenses and defeat at Maritimo last time out has not been the best preparation.

But Ferreira remains convinced his side can shock the Blues and is not affected by the pressure of a vital game.

"None of the games of Porto is without pressure or responsibility," said Ferreira.

"The idea is to get the most points in qualification and go forward. Porto, in the last few years, has always made its presence felt in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

"We want to play at a more superior level than we have been during the last few weeks.

"We had a very good performance at Stamford Bridge so we must now look to win the game here and to compete at the most superior level we can.

"We need to compete and there is nothing better than playing against a good team like Chelsea, to see how we are evolving.

"The result depends on the capacity of Porto to face its opponent."
