Jiminez: Result is all that counts
Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez has described their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Unirea Urziceni as fair.
Sevilla had already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League prior to Tuesday's match, but they could have secured top spot in Group G with only a draw at the Steaua Stadium in Bucharest.
However, it was Unirea - who had never won a home match in European competition previously - who took the honours thanks to Sevilla defender Ivica Dragutinovic, who headed into his own net on the stroke of half-time for the only goal of the game.
Sevilla had chances to get back into the match, but it was not to be and they must now get something out of their final match at home to bottom club Rangers to be sure of finishing as group winners.
Jimenez said of his side's defeat: "80% of the possession was ours, we had more chances on goal, but football is like that.
"The game was there for us to win, but Unirea have taken advantage of our error to win. The statistics are overwhelmingly in Sevilla's favour.
"But in football, the result is what counts and congratulations to Unirea to their chances on goal. It's unfair for the possession we had, unfair for the the way we attacked, and unfair for the amount of chances on goal...but the result is fair because they've got a goal, which we've given them, and we haven't."
Despite last night's disappointment, Sevilla only need a point from their game against Rangers at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to finish on top of the group and potentially get them an easier draw in the last 16.
Winger Jesus Navas said: "We still have to finish first and we have the chance to do it at our ground. We need to think about the next game."
He added about last night's match: "It was a very difficult game. We knew that it was going to be a tough ground to go to and we haven't had much luck.
"We've worked well, we had chances to score, but fortune has gone their way a little bit more."
