Manchester United have lost at for the first time in European competition for 13 years thanks to a Tello special.

Manchester United:

Ben Foster: 6
Was not to blame for Besiktas's goal.

Gary Neville: 5
When United needed more width, he couldn't contribute as much as an attacking right-back.

Nemanja Vidic: 5
Was a threat at set-pieces but was a listless spectator as United dominated possession.

Wes Brown: 5
Was frequently caught out by tricky Besiktas attackers.

Rafael Da Silva: 5
Paid the price for backing off Tello and was at fault for Besiktas' first goal. Replaced by Patrice Evra.

Gabriel Obertan: 8
He was perhaps United most dangerous player with his incisive runs on the right. He also posed a threat at set-pieces. The young Frenchman also had a great chance to pull United level in the first-half but his shot was saved by the 'keeper.

Danny Gibson: 6
Average performance. Gibson Replaced by Michael Carrick.

Anderson: 6
Anderson was his usual busy self but struggled to open up the stubborn Turkish defence

Park Ji-Sung: 5
The Korean did not have the best of games. Was replaced by Michael Owen.

Federico Macheda: 6
Showed some great touches but could not inspire a comeback.

Danny Welbeck: 6
His link-up play with Macheda and Obertan looks promising.

Michael Owen: 5
Didn't have much time to impose himself in the game.

Michael Carrick: 5
Had a chance to get United level in the fifth minute of injury time but his shot found Rustu.

Patrice Evra: 6
Made a mazy run into the box and was illegally halted in his tracks. Could have earned a penalty for United.

Besiktas

Rustu Recber: 8
Showed great positional sense and timeless agility to thwart United's attacks.

Ibrahim Kas: 7
Matched the work ethic of both Anderson and Park combined.

Ferrari: 6
The Besiktas defender was not confident whenever United attacked from set-pieces.

Ibraham Toraman: 7
He comfortably repelled United attacks but had to be stretched off after suffering a broken nose in an aerial collision with Obertan.

Ibrahim Uzulmez: 7
Was not troubled in defence against Fergie's fledglings.

Fink: 6
Had a great chance to score before half-time but with the goal at his mercy, he hit the post.

Fabian Ernst: 6
Kept Anderson quiet and limited his influence.

Ekrem Dag: 6
The versatile Austrian midfielder kept his discipline and tried to hold off most of United's attacks.

MAN-OF-THE-MATCH Rodrigo Tello: 8
He was just different class. He scored a great goal in the 20th minute - albeit taking a deflection off Rafael - and gave Besiktas a lead to defend. He also made a cute pass to Michael Fink but the German couldn't convert.

Ismail Koybasi: 5
Obertan gave him the runaround several times.

Bobo: 6
Ran himself to the ground by defending from the front.
