Gianluigi Buffon has conceded that Juventus and Inter Milan cannot match AC Milan in terms of their European achievements.

Juve lost 2-0 to a superior Bordeaux side on Wednesday, following Inter's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

"It's not a tactical issue, it's more one of mentality and the fact there is a big difference between playing in Italy and in Europe," Buffon complained.

"In Italy you need physical strength and a bit of quality, but in Europe everyone is very organised and you risk some costly slip-ups.

"We saw with Inter that if you don't have a truly strong organised system, you won't be able to dominate teams on your travels.

"The only Italian side who can do [it in Europe] are Milan and that's why they traditionally do so well in this competition."
