Cech backs Blues' Euro bid

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is confident his side can triumph in the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Blues were knocked out in dramatic fashion by Barcelona in the semi-finals of last year's competition, thanks to a late goal from Andres Iniesta.

It was more heartbreak the year before when Chelsea were beaten on penalties in the final against Manchester United in Moscow.

Chelsea have never won the Champions League but this season Cech believes they can go all the way.

"We are craving for Premier League crown this season and I hope we will manage that," he told Sport.cz.

"At the same time, I believe that we will do well on the Champions League scene.

"Our team has the potential to win the most prestigious European club trophy finally."

Chelsea face Italian champions Inter Milan in the first knockout round of this season's tournament, as former Blues manager Jose Mourinho returns to face his former side.

Meanwhile, Cech is reportedly the favourite to win the Czech Republic's Footballer of the Year award for the fifth time in his career.

"It is probably because with coach Ancelotti we have picked up on the successful spring period under coach Hiddink," he added.

"During which we were playing catch-up in the Premier League, won the FA Cup and were doing well also in the UEFA Champions League from which we were eliminated after the much-discussed semi-final against Barcelona.

"Now we are leading the Premier League and are in a good position in the Champions League."
