Puel congratulates players on upset
Claude Puel has hailed his players after Olympique Lyonnais’ 1-1 Champions League triumph over Real Madrid.
Lyon led 1-0 from their first leg clash at the Stade Gerland, and were pressured from the start of the game as Real gave the home crowd something to cheer about with a sixth-minute Cristiano Ronaldo goal. Les Gones roared back in the second half and equalised in the game in the 75th minute, courtesy of a Miralem Pjanic close range shot.
"We avoided the worst first half," Puel told TF1 after the game. "Congratulations to the players because they went after themselves. We played a great second half and I think that given the second half we deserved it."
Lyon join Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of Europe's elite competition, with four place still up for grabs next week.
