Blanc has plenty to do in Bosnia

Laurent Blanc may have just started his job with France but another poor performance on Tuesday in Bosnia will not go down well.

It is true that a loss to Bosnia is unlikely to ruin France's hopes for Euro 2012 qualification at this stage. Their group consists of unfancied teams like Luxembourg, Romania and Albania.

However, such is the misery surrounding the French national team at the moment that Blanc does not have the luxury of simply qualifying for Euro 2012 - he needs to win back the fans by qualifying in style.

Their fourth consecutive defeat on Friday left Blanc feeling that his side did not deserve to lose after dominating possession throughout the single-goal loss to Belarus.

"We lacked effectiveness in front of goal, and in football the most difficult thing is to score goals.

"When you do not succeed [in scoring], we must ensure that we do defensively. On one of their rare forays, they scored. This is unfortunate because throughout the game we did not deserve to lose, but it is so."

Unfortunately, Les Blues also failed to create enough chances up-front to deserve to win the game - a worrying fact not lost on Belarus captain Yuri Zhevnov.

Zhevnov, who is also the goalkeeper for Belarus, said he "didn't have so much work to do" during the match.

"This is a new beginning for the French team, and our coach kept telling us they might be vulnerable. He was right," Zhevnov said.

Les Bleus were afforded applause from the home crowd at the start of the Belarus game at the Stade de Franc, but by the end boos rang out.

Blanc will have another chance on Tuesday against Bosnia to set things right.
