41th minute: Silva goes down in the box! No penalty. Grosso's mis-timed tackle on the Valencia midfielder goes unpunished. Italy sportingly kick the ball out of play as Silva rolls on the grass in agony.

38th minute: Torres ghosts past two defenders and his shot is blocked. The rebound falls to Silva but he couldn't get his shot on target. Spain asking all the questions. So is Buffon to his defenders.

36th minute: Inviting cross from Antonio Cassano and Toni's header is blocked by Marchena. Lucky escape for Spain!

The Valencia play-maker outshone his more illustrious teammates, Xavi and Iniesta, in midfield with another mature performance in midfield against the world champions, Italy. Silva ran the show in midfield, creating chances for his teammates and also firing missiles to test Gigi Buffon. The 22-year-old just pipped Casillas to the MOM award who had another magnificent game between the posts.
