Belgians rue wasted chances
Dinamo Zagreb kept their Europa League dreams alive with a gritty victory on the road against Anderlecht.
The Belgian outfit enjoyed the lion's share of the chances over the 90 minutes but failed to convert their dominance into goals and were punished in the second period as Miroslav Slepicka headed home Dinamo's winner.
The win moves the Croatian outfit onto six points, two behind second-placed Anderlecht heading into the decisive round of fixtures on Matchday Six.
Anderlecht must defeat group leaders Ajax in Holland in a fortnight if they are to be sure of taking their place in the knockout stage, while Dinamo round out their group campaign with a home encounter against eliminated Timisoara.
Although Anderlecht went on to boss the opening period, they received a scare early on when Slepicka went close inside 15 seconds with a drive that flew wide of the left upright.
The Belgians soon found themselves on top, though, and on 22 minutes Romelu Lukaku produced a smart stop from Dinamo goalkeeper Tomislav Butina.
Mbark Boussoufa really should have put the hosts ahead four minutes later when gifted a chance from just six yards but he conspired to fire wide.
And the Anderlecht dominance continued on 32 minutes when Jonathan Legear let fly from the edge of the area to bring a good diving save from the busy Butina.
Guillaume Gillet went close for the hosts from the resulting corner but once again the ball sailed wide of the target.
And Butina was once more called into action 10 minutes before the break as he denied Lukaku with a good stop.
Lukaku spurned another chance and Butina denied Legear in the opening few minutes of the second half, and the hosts were soon left to rue their profligacy as Dinamo surged into the lead on 57 minutes.
Ivan Tomecak was the architect of the goal with a teasing delivery from the right wing which was met with a firm header by Slepicka into the top-right corner.
Dinamo looked comfortable after scoring and were the side most likely to add to the scoring as Anderlecht ran out of steam late on, with Ondrej Mazuch's hopeful effort from the edge of the box in the final minute the closest the hosts came to snatching a point.
