Villa takes heart to Bremen result
Valencia striker David Villa is hoping their thrilling Europa League success over Werder Bremen can be a turning point for his side.
Valencia were slight underdogs heading into the last-16 second leg at Bremen having been held 1-1 at home in the first meeting and having not recorded an away win in over two months.
Los Che are still looking to end that winless streak on their travels after drawing 4-4 with Bremen last night, but result meant they still progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League on away goals.
Villa, who struck a hat-trick, now hopes the match will signal better times ahead for his side, who have won just three of their last 12 matches in all competitions and are no longer as comfortable in third place in La Liga as they were.
"The team are really happy to have qualified, it's an important boost for morale," the Spain striker told Radio Marca.
"Bremen are a great team, but we were better than them on aggregate. It was a difficult ground, we already knew how all the German teams are.
"We can take a lot of lessons from the game. We've scored four goals, but we've also let in four. We suffered, fought, we hope that this will be a turning point.
"We're happy, we are four games away from the the chance to play in a European final."
