See who played a blinder and who had a nightmare in the big North-West derby.

LIVERPOOL

Reina: 8 Looked comfortable against a limited United attack and swept up well behind his back four.

Johnson: 7 Not as attacking as usual, but safe and secure at the back.

Carragher: 8 A welcome return to form for the Liverpool captain. Vital interception in the first half on Carrick.

Agger: 7 Tough and uncompromising at the heart of the defence

Insua: 6 Shaky start against the pace of Valencia but provided steady influence on the left.

Mascherano: 6 Strangely quiet in the first half from a very deep-lying role. Day got worse when sent off near the end.

Lucas: 8 A confident and energetic performance that will surprise and delight Liverpool fans. Best game yet for Liverpool.

Kuyt: 7 The usual 100% effort from the Dutchman - will rue not shooting when presented with a chance late on.

Benayoun: 8 Looked the most likely creative spark for Liverpool. Sublime pass to free Torres for the first goal.

Aurelio: 7 Workmanlike performance - some good surges into the box and kept the United midfielders on the back foot.

Torres: 7 Surprisngly quiet for most of the match, then out-muscled Ferdinand to score from his one and only chance.

Subs:
N'gog: 7 Kept his cool to slot home with the last kick of the game.

Skrtel: 6 Came on to shore up the defence.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Van der Sar: 7 Made a superb doubel-save in the first half - could do nothing about either goal.

O'Shea: 5 Anonymous for the entire match.

Ferdinand: 5 Rio's patchy form continues - looked off the pace and was out-powered by Torres for the goal.

Vidic: 6 Was the best of a bad bunch in the United defence - solid and strong but saw red when caught for pace by Kuyt.

Evra: 5 Was more influential in the first half - faded badly as the game went on.

Valencia: 7 United's most potent attacking threat - his pace was a threat until Liverpool starved him of service.

Scholes: 6 Caught in possession too often and looked a bit leggy against the youthful Liverpool midfield.

Carrick: 6 Couldn't get his passing game going as he was harried all night.

Giggs: 6 His usual composed self in the hectic derby atmosphere but few chances and never really imposed himself.

Rooney: 7 A mix of nice touches and aggression from the striker but suffered from a lack of service. Never gave up.

Berbatov: 6 The usual performance from the laconic striker - casual at times and never really a goal-threat.

Subs:
Owen: 6 His one chance was snuffed out when brought down by Carragher.

Nani: 6 Injected some pace into the United attack but sometimes more effort than results.
