BPL Team of the Week 03
Kelvin Leong has no choice but to admit that Arsenal's game is a sight to behold as he brings you the best eleven players in the BPL this week.
Shay Given - Man City
Just why Given is not acclaimed as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League is a longstanding myth in my opinion. Saved a penalty against Birmingham and produced a string of wonderful saves to give Mark Hughes' side a solitary point.
Jody Craddock - Wolvehampton
Stoke City has been pummeling opposing defences with their giant defenders going up for set-pieces but at the weekend, they were given a taste of their own medicine after Craddock destroyed their hopes of three points with two goals.
Patrice Evra - Manchester United
The French left-back has taken on a more offensive role for the Red Devils this season. He never stops attacking and a lot of United's goals this season have come from his forays into the opposing half. Could even play as a winger if needed.
Thomas Vermaelen - Arsenal
Step aside John Terry. Vermaelen is in town! William Gallas must be the happiest he has ever been in his time at Arsenal with his new defensive partner proving to be the bargain of the season. Strong in the tackle and his anticipation is second to none. Peter Crouch had no chance at all.
Roger Johnson - Birmingham
Johnson stood tall as he took up the challenge of keeping Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez quiet. Flew into tackles like a good old English centre-half and was commanding his fellow troopers to keep their line. Great stuff.
Andy Reid - Sunderland
The Irish winger is having a renaissance season under the tutelage of Steve Bruce. His slaloming runs are back along with a keen eye for goal. Scored a goal to haul the Black Cats back into the game.
Deco - Chelsea
When Deco decides to show up, he is one of the best playmakers in the game. And that was exactly what happened against Bolton on Saturday. He sprayed the passes across the pitch with ease and helped himself to goal to put Carlo Ancelotti's men into cruise control.
Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal
One touch, one strike and the ball nestles into the back of the net. One touch, one pass and the ball rolls into the path of his teammates to score. Fabregas seems determined to prove that he should be a starter for Spain ahead of Xabi Alonso and Xavi.
Robin van Persie - Arsenal
Arsene Wenger proclaimed his new ‘No.9' as a mix of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp. Can't agree more with that statement. The Dutchman has transformed himself from a lightweight boxer to a heavyweight machine. Sent Tottenham captain Ledley King home feeling like a bullied schoolboy.
Aruna Dindane - Portsmouth
If Paul Hart is having sleepless nights thinking about the misfortunes that have been aplenty at Fratton Park, Dindane did his best to put a smile on his manager's face. Three well-taken goals to give the powerfully-built hitman his first hat-trick on English soil.
Bobby Zamora - Fulham
With each passing week, Jamie Carragher is looking more and more like a player past his prime. The Cottagers' chief striker, Zamora, was on hand to give Carra another nightmarish weekend. Made the Reds defence looking frail and ageing throughout the match. Deserved more than the one goal scored.
