La Liga Team of the Week 03
Kelvin Leong's La Liga Team of the Week has a huge list of current and former Real Madrid players.
Cesar - Valencia
A evergreen veteran was the hero of the hour as Malaga tried in vain to put the ball past him to no avail. Pulled off save after save to give the visitors a slim 1-0 away win.
David Navarro - Valencia
More often remembered for his violent behavior in the Champions League a few seasons back, Navarro has been given a chance to becoming a starter for Valencia and he seems to be relishing the challenge. Put in a solid defensive shift while scoring the lone goal against a sloppy Malaga.
Sergio Ramos - Real Madrid
Had a poor start to the season but has inched his way back into top form. Never allowed Getafe to trouble Iker Casillas and joined in the attack when given the space. His dynamism will be crucial for Mardid if they are looking to usher in silverware this season.
Joan Capdevila - Villarreal
Villarreal's most consistent player this season, Capdevilla is leading by example as he has not put a foot wrong for Ernesto Valverde's team. Great leader to have in your side when sailing through rough waters.
Lafita - Real Zaragoza
His transfer to Zaragoza from Deportivo La Coruna was a messy affair but it all seems worthwhile now. Showed his lightning pace and eye for goal in Zaragoza's 2-1 win over Almeria.
Lassana Diarra - Real Madrid
Arsenal and Chelsea did not buy into the Frenchman's style of play but Diarra has gone on to become one of the best holding midfielders in world football. His strength and reading of the game allows Kaka the freedom to go on the offensive without worries.
Seydou Keita - Barcelona
Keita is not known to be a prolific goalscorer from midfield but he seems to be enjoying a good scoring spell at the moment. Put the reigning league champions ahead before his teammates let him down with some shabby defending towards the end of the game.
Robert Pires - Villarreal
The former Arsenal and Marseille playmaker has been a subdued figure since joining the Yellow Submarines. Last season, he seemed to be utilized as an impact substitute but under Ernesto Valverde, Pires is rewinding the clock and putting in match-winning performances. Demolished Tenerife with his arrow-sharp passing.
Joseba Llorente - Villarreal
Along with Giuseppe Rossi and Pires, Llorente's movement and great touch helped Ernesto secure his biggest win as the Yellow Submarines' coach. The big-small combination with Rossi seems to be bearing fruit with each passing game.
Alvaro Negredo - Sevilla
He chose to join Sevilla instead of sit and wait at the Bernabeu. Has stamped his authority when given game time with Luis Fabiano and Freddy Kanoute breathing down his neck. Put Sevilla ahead against Xerez at the weekend before Fabiano sealed the deal.
Gonzalo Higuain - Real Madrid
The Argentine hitman has been pushed down the pecking order with Raul and Karim Benzema as the preferred strike force for the Los Merengues this season. Unfazed by that, Higuain has been putting in his shifts and two goals against a tough Getafe side should put him into contention more often.
