Player Ratings for Lyon-Liverpool

ESPNSTAR.com brings you the player ratings between Lyon and Liverpool in the Champions League Group E match.

By Eugene YS Han

Lyon through to the next stage of the Champions League after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Liverpool. The Reds' hopes of qualification becomes even dimmer after Fiorentina beat Derenc.

Lyon

Hugo Lloris: 8

Made three huge saves in the first half to prevent his side from going behind.

Anthony Reveillere: 6 (off 18th)

Replaced in the 18th minute.

Cris: 8

Kept Fernando Torres in his pocket all evening. Tough tackling and always tried to break forward were possible.

Jeremy Toulalan: 7

Had a relatively easy time except for the moment when he ball-watched to allow Voronin to run through on goal.

Aly Cissokho: 6

Tried to link up with Lopez to attack Jamie Carragher at right-back.

Miralem Pjanic: 6 (off 40th)

Limited impact and got himself injured.

Jean Makoun: 6

Good distribution and tried to keep Lyon's attack going.

Kim Kallstrom: 6

Protected the back four well. Wasteful with freekicks from great positions.

Bafetimbi Gomis: 7 (off 73rd)

He could turn out to be Drogba Mark II with his physical play and natural abilities. Gave Liverpool's defence no time to settle on the ball.

Lisandro Lopez: 8

Lyon's record signing scored the all-important equaliser for Lyon. Always a threat on the left flank and also worked tirelessly to help out in defence.

Michel Bastos: 7

The tricky Brazilian forward gave Reina something to think about with a fourth minute shot. Had a side-duel with Insua.

Subs:

Lamine Gassama: 6 (on 18th)

Hardly troubled since coming on.

Ederson: 6 (on 40th)

Tried to be the link man but couldn't get past Mascherano.

Sidney Govou: 6 (on 73rd)

Gave Lyon a bit more attacking ideas when he came on.

Liverpool

Pepe Reina: 7

Showed a safe pair of hands when called upon. Good distribution. Couldn't do anything about Lopez's shot.

Jamie Carragher: 6

Steady as a makeshift right-back and was targeted by Lyon's attackers.

Daniel Agger: 5

Mixed day in defence - was easily turned by attackers. Held back Gomis to earn a yellow card and nearly got another one for a fould on Ederson. Lucky to stay on.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos: 5

At fault for Lyon's equaliser where he should have stayed on his feet.

Emilliano Insua: 7

Had a interesting battle with Michel Bastos.

Dirk Kuyt: 7

His usual busy self and nearly dug out a goal with an unconventional hook.

Lucas Leiva: 5

Limited performance. Too similar to Mascherano and doesn't offer anything to their attack.

Javier Mascherano: 7

Immense in the centre of midfield, breaking up any Lyon moves before they became too dangerous.

Yossi Benayoun: 7

At his usual busy self but struggled to impose himself on the left flank.

Andriy Voronin: 6 (off 68th)

Had one of his better games but should have scored in the 28th minute when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Fernando Torres: 8 (off 87th)

Even at 75%, he still proved a handful for the Lyon defence.

Subs:

Ryan Babel: 7 (on 68th)

Scored a spectacular long-range strike which deserves to win any game.

David N'gog: 6 (on 87th)

Came on to just waste time for Liverpool. Didn't work though.
