Arsenal-Wolves Player Ratings

Arsenal-Wolves Player Ratings

We rate the players in the Saturday game between the Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal at the Molineux.

Wolves

Wayne Hennessey - 5
Was a helpless bystander in all four goals. Did alright when crosses and long balls were in his zone.

Christophe Berra - 4
Not a great day for the defender. He was harrassed constantly by the Gunners' forward line and just could not cope.

Jody Craddock - 5
Another one who found it difficult to keep up with the incessant attacks. Saved some face for his team with a late header.

Richard Stearman - 5
Had a slightly better game than his defensive partners. A few runs down the left looked really threatening, but ended in too much dithering or poor crosses.

Ronald Zubar - 3.5
It was his own goal that opened the flood gates for the Gunners. Should have reacted faster in clearing the ball.

Segundo Castillo - 4
Had a night to forget. The Arsenal midfield had him trussed up through most of the game.

Karl Henry - 3.5
Simply inadequate. He looked completely out of his depth against a top class team. This performance will raise grave doubts about his ability to play in the premier league.

Nenad Milijas - 7

One of the few Wolves players to come out with credit. Constantly threatening, he asked some tough questions of the Arsenal defence. Might have scored on another day.

David Edwards - 4
Largely anonymous through the game.

Ebanks-Blake - 6
Another player who was full of industry and enterprise, especially in the first 20 mintues. Would have liked to do better with the half chances that fell his way.

Kevin Doyle - 5.5
There was decent link-up play between him and Blake on occasion. But as was the case too often for Wolves on the evening, his touch at crucial times and in crucial areas was lacklustre.

Substitutes

Michael Kightly - 4
Replaced the ineffective Castillo but could not do much better.

Matthew Jarvis - 4
Had big boots to fill when he replaced Milijas. Well way short

M. Mancienne

- n.a
Came on too late.

Arsenal

Manuel Almunia - 6
Endured a few hairy moments in the first few minutes of the match. Was never really bothered after that.

Thomas Vermaleen - 6
An unusually quiet game for the Belgian

William Gallas - 5
Ditto for Gallas although questions will be asked of the non-existent marking that led to the late Wolves goal

Kieran Gibbs - 6
Slid in smoothly as a like for like replacement for Gael Clichy. Blinding pace is his forte but needs to work on his crosses.

Bacary Sagna - 7
Dependable as ever.

Abou Diaby - 5 (off 24')
Walked off injured before he could make an impact.

Aaron Ramsey - 8.5
Arguably Arsenal's player of the night. The youngster was given a start after a long time and showed off all his prodigious skills. Would be disappointed he couldn't grab a goal despite an excellent performance.

Cesc Fabregas - 8
The captain continued his white hot streak, netting one and pulling all the strings from midfield.

Eduardo - 7.5
Another one who had a good day out. Played a part in the first two goals and was taunting the Wolves defence throughout with his close control.

Andrei Arshavin - 6.5
Another relatively quiet game for the Russian although he did manage to slot one in late on. Has developed a tendency to go it alone when a pass would be the right choice.

Robin Van Persie - 6.5
His first goalless match in a long time. He had a few chances and will be disappointed not to have taken them.

Substitutes

Alexandre Song - 7
Slotted in well for Diaby and showed he has come a long way with his passing - both in the air and on the ground.

Tomas Rosicky - 7
Bustling with energy as always, the midfielder threatened constantly inspite of being on only for the last 20 minutes of the match.

Samir Nasri - 5
The Frenchman did not really have much to do. He's gradually being eased back after a long lay-off.
