Premier League Team of the Week 04
Cesc Fabregas is becoming a mainstay in Kelvin Leong's Premier League Team of the Week.
Huerelho Gomes - Tottenham
Darren Bent almost silenced the Tottenhan fans but Gomes saves the former Spurs boy's penalty-kick and never allowed anything pass him all night. Beginning to show the form that made him a star at PSV Eindhoven a few seasons back.
Kolo Toure - Manchester City
The former Arsenal captain needs a better defensive partner. He is putting in extra work in every game to cover for Joleon Lescott who seems to have lost his way in the blinding lights of Manchester since his move from Everton. Toure tried to rally his troops against Burnley but despite his valiant efforts which included a goal, he could not prevent City from going five league games without a win. Big Four or big flop? The knives are out.
Ryan Nelsen - Blackburn Rovers
He hails from a country who are crazy about rugby and not football. Nelsen played like an All Blacks warrior and his goal clawed Blackburn back from a goal down to take the lead against Paul Hart's Portsmouth side.
Jody Craddock - Wolverhampton
From not scoring for years to suddenly scoring a bag of goals in his last two Premiership outings. Craddock deserves another shot in our Team of the Week. Too bad for his own goal that put Arsenal in cruise control mode.
Mathew Etherington - Stoke
The former Tottenham winger has always had the pace but never quite the end product. At Stoke, Tony Pulis has transformed him into a winger who loves to cut in and race into the box before taking a shot at goal. James Beattie must be thanking his lucky stars to have a consistent provider down the flanks.
Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal
We have given up on this Spanish armada. He will be in our Team of the Week for the rest of the season! Arsene Wenger's midfield general seems to be playing his best football ever in the last two months with a combination of well-taken goals and needle-eye passes making him one of the most in-form players in Europe at the moment.
Tom Huddlestone - Tottenham
The England U-21 man-mountain was touted as a future England star but for two years, Huddlestone never qutie showed up. This season, the former Derby County youngster has blossomed into an all-round central midfielder who can thread passes across the pitch while maintaining the shape of the team. Combined well with Defoe for his goal to ensure Harry Redknapp's team finished with maximum points.
Ashley Young - Aston Villa
Young could very well turn out to be Fabio Capello's trump card in South Africa next year. He is starting to show maturity in his play while still terrorizing defenders with his mazy dribbles. Scored Villa's second goal to send them on their way to a 5-1 mauling of Bolton Wanderers.
Cameron Jerome - Birmingham
His thunderbolt that left the Anfield faithful stunned beyond words just before half-time will go down as one of the best goals scored this season. Just when Liverpool welcomed back their captain, Steven Gerrard, Jerome took the ball down and struck a fatal blow right into Rafa Benitez's heart. Ouch!
Andrei Arshavin - Arsenal
His transfer from Zenit St Petersburg was a well-documented affair but he has proved to be worthy of the buzz. A natural playmaker who makes defenders shudder in fear when he sets off on one of his dazzling forays down the flank. Great sight to behold.
Didier Drogba - Chelsea
Yes The Drog did not get on the scoresheet against the Red Devils but it was his tireless running and hold-up play that frustrated Jonny Evans so much so that the United man decided to give Drogba a good kick in the chest. Drogba looks unplayable at the moment. Absolute class. Salute!
