Manchester United
Tomasz Kuszczak - 9
One of the best outing's of keeper's career. Snuffed out numerous threatening Portsmouth moves.
Nemanja Vidic - 4
Not the best of days for the big Serb. Looked uncertain throughout. Gave away a penalty, although can consider himself unlucky for that.
Wes Brown - 4
Vidic's partner in central defence was shaky as well. Brown just could not get on the same wavelength with Vidic.
Patrice Evra - 7
Caused massive headaches to the Pompey defence with mazy runs down the left. Solid in defence as well.
Gary Neville - 5
Not quite as fast as his mate at leftback, but did well enough to prevent the likes of O'Hara from causing too much damage.
Michael Carrick - 5.5 (off 76')
Things returned to normal after his exploits last week. A better team would have caused him problems.
Paul Scholes - 6
Picked up his usual yellow card, but looked very threatening in central midfield. Can consider himself unlucky not to have scored with one of his signature thunderbolts.
Darren Fletcher - 5.5
Another one who had a comparitively pedestrian game. Could not control the likes of Boateng and O'Hara as well as Fergie would have wanted.
Ryan Giggs - 9
Scored his 100th goal for United with a typically well-placed free kick. Won a penalty and assisted in another goal. He just refuses to go gently into that good night.
Antonio Valencia - 8
Had his best day in a Red jersey. It was his sublime pass to Rooney that won the Devils their first penalty. Constantly threatened down the right flank.
Wayne Rooney - 9.5
A near perfect outing for the England striker. A brilliant performance that deserved the hat-trick.
Substitutes
Anderson - 4.5
Came close to scoring on one ocassion but fluffed his lines, as usual.
Portsmouth
Asmir Begovic - 5
Was to blame for Giggs' goal. Could not have done anything about the two penalties or about United's only goal from open play.
Marc Wilson - 3.5
Outclassed by the marauding United forward line. Rooney, in particular made him look foolish quite often.
Younes Kaboul - 4
Another central defender who had a torrid day.
Hermann Hreidarsson - 7
Made some strong runs down the left, particularly in the opening exchanges. Provided quality service to his forwards who could not take advantage.
Tal Ben-Heim - 4
Was given the run around by a sparkling Ryan Giggs. Not one of his better days.
Michael Brown -5.5
Held his own for most the game against United's quality.
Kevin-Prince Boateng - 7
One of Pompey's better players on the night. Put away the penalty without too much fuss and was involved in most of Portsmouth's forward movement.
Jamie O'Hara - 7.5
Another one who was full of verve in the first half. He is definitely one of Portsmouth's best buys in recent times.
Hassan Yebda (off 78') - 5
Largely anonymous.
Frederic Piquionne (off 63')- 4
Gave away a foolish penalty by bundling Giggs over. United pulled away from their opponents after that.
Aruna Dindane (off 81') - 6
Got himself into good position, but failed to close the deal. Was foiled by Kuszczak twice, but had only himself to blame for poor finishing on other ocassions.
Substitutes
Nwankwo Kanu - 4
Looked ineffective and sluggish
John Utaka - 5
Barely got into the game
Tommy Smith - n.a
