We rate the players in the game between Everton and Tottenham at Goodison Park on Sunday.
By Abhishek Mehrotra
Everton
Tim Howard - 7
Turned out to be the hero of the piece with a late late penalty save off Jermain Defoe.
Joseph Yobo (off 15') - n.a
Tony Hibbert - 7
Based solely on his first half performance, would have received a 9. But let Jermain Defoe give him the slip once and also gave away a potentially fatal penalty.
Leighton Baines - 6
Was a constant threat down the left. His delivery was not as high quality as it usually is.
Lucas Neill - 6
Was caught ball watching as Michael Dawson came in from behind to score with a bullet header. Did a good job otherwise of dealing with the lanky Crouch.
Tim Cahill - 7
Let Tottenham know they were in for a fight with some hard tackles. Spurs had cancelled out his ariel threat quite effectively but the dogged Aussie showed good reflexes to score Everton's second.
Marouane Fellaini - 6
A good, hard-working performance by the mop. Made himself a nuisance to the Tottenham defence throughout the game.
Jack Rodwell - 4
Could not leave an imprint on the game.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov - 4.5
Was not in great touch. Does not seem to have settled down in the team yet.
Steven Pienaar - 6.5
Gave Benoit Assou-Ekotto a torrid time with his direct runs. Managed to send in quality crosses with regular frequency.
Jo - 5.5
Made some decent runs, but does not have the quality to do it all alone up front. Saha's appearance later showed how big the gap between the two is.
Substitutes
Seamus Coleman - 8.5
Man of the match for Everton. Came on in place of the injured Yobo and caused mayhem down the flank. Had a hand in both the Everton goals. David Moyes seems to have unearthed a gem amidst the injury crisis.
Ayegbeni Yakubu - 5
Caused concern to the Spurs with his strength but did not look too assured on the ball.
Louis Saha - 7.5
The tempo increased immediately after his introduction. Finished off Coleman's cross brilliantly and was unlucky not to score with an audacious bicycle kick.
Tottenham
Gomes - 5
Was rarely threatened in the first half and let down by his defence for both goals in the second.
Sebastien Bassong - 6
Looked the better of the two central defenders. Looked solid against the slippery Jo.
Michael Dawson - 4.5
Did score a goal but had a bad time of it defensively against Jo and then Saha.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto (off 45') - 2
Had a horrible outing. Was made to look foolish by Pienaar time and again, forcing Redknapp to sub him at half time.
Vedran Corluka - 5
Looked in better form than he has in the previous few games. Put in some useful crosses and shut down Bilyaletdinov effectively.
Wilson Palacios (off 90') - 7
Was Spurs' reply to some rugged Everton tackling in midfield. Also won the penalty that Defoe unfortunately missed.
Tom Huddlestone - 5
It was a tale of two halves for him. Picked out some telling passes in the first, before mysteriously going amiss in the second.
Niko Kranjcar (off 88') - 4
Was overpowered in midfield by Cahill and Fellaini. Looked lost when things started to get physical.
Aaron Lennon - 7.5
Another sparkling performance by the winger. Was upto his usual trickery and made sure Baines could not leave him unattended for long. Set up Tottenham's first with a fizzing cross to Defoe.
Peter Crouch - 4
Had numerous chances in the first half but did not have his shooting boots on.
Jermain Defoe - 6
A good performance that will be overshadowed by the missed penalty. Finished Lennon's pass with aplomb and was threatening throughout.
Substitutes
Gareth Bale - 4
Came on for Assou-Ekotto but put in a damp performance. Was too slow in cutting off Coleman in the move that led to Everton's first.
Jermain Jenas - n.a
Alan Hutton - n.a
