Premier League Team of the Week 07

Kelvin Leong already has one player he reckons will be in espnstar.com's BPL Team of the Season and its only December!

Thomas Sorensen - Stoke City

The giant stopper gave his side a fighting chance against the free-flowing style of football at the Emirates produced by Arsene Wenger's side when he saved Cesc Fabregas spot-kick in the 21st minute. Did his best to keep the rampant Gunners at bay but there is only so much one man can do.

Patrice Evra - Manchester United

The French left-back was unstoppable against a poor Hammers side. Never troubled in defence, Evra's forays down the left was a sight to behold. If he carries on this form for the rest of the year, we can already include him in our Team of the Season.

Richard Dunne - Aston Villa

His Irish heartache was cast aside as the former Man City sweeper was solid at the back against Hull City while also proving a worthy offensive threat with the opening goal. One of the reasons why Villa are sitting comfortably in the top-six positions.

Christopher Samba - Blackburn Rovers

The giant defender must have put a smile on his manager, Sam Allardyce's face as he continues to recuperate from surgery. Was quick to nullify what little threat Liverpool mustered and was the main target in attack when Rovers were given any dead-ball situations.

Jody Craddock - Wolverhampton

Prior to this season, Craddock has never seen his name blinking on the score-sheet as must as he has this time around. The tough-tackling defender gave his side the lead with his fourth goal of the season. Fourth goal of the season. Yes, we checked and verified. Jody Craddock, four goals this season.

Sebastian Larsson - Birmingham

People who read my ‘Players to watch in the BPL 2009/10' would remember seeing this man in the list. I pointed out his free-kicks as a deadly weapon and he has proven my point by scoring twice from dead-ball situations to snatch victory from Roberto Martinez's Wigan side.

Paul Scholes - Manchester United

The older the better. Just like Ryan Giggs, Scholes showed the younger Red Devils how to get the job done with deadly effiency. A nice goal, a yellow-card and a commanding playmaking performance down the middle. Typical of the evergreen midfielder.

Nigel de Jong - Manchester City

He was left, he was right and he was even faster than the speed of light of that was possible. Covered every blade of grass and stamped his authority to crush Chelsea's midfield diamond like they weren't there. Reminded me of his compatriot, Edgar Davids, minus the famous goggles.

Andrey Arshavin - Arsenal

With Robin van Persie out injured, Arshavin has taken over the mantle as the Gunners' chief striker. His movement off the ball and grace on his dribbles will be sorely missed when the best players on the planet converge in South Africa next year. If only he was English!

Aruna Dindane - Portsmouth

A missed penalty, a yellow card and a goal. You can call it a complete performance from a striker but Avram Grant won't be complaining as long as Dindane continues scoring the goals that will take Portsmouth out of the relegation places.

Jermain Defoe - Tottenham

The England striker can drift in and out of games across 90 minutes but all he needs is that one opportunity on goal and he will most likely score. Another goal against Everton at Goodison Park will certainly do his World Cup chances no harm. Could turn out to be Fabio Capello's trump card when the chips are down.
