La Liga Team of the Week 07

La Liga Team of the Week 07

No he is not trying to please Diego Maradona but Kelvin Leong has gone Argentine-crazy in this week's La Liga Team of the Week.

Diego Alves - Almeria

Not often will a stopper who let in four goals be chosen as the best man between the sticks but had it not been for him, Real Madrid would have hit double digits by the end of then night. Even saved a spot-kick from the most expensive player in the world in from of the Bernabeu crowd.

Joan Capdevilla - Villarreal

The Spanish left-back produced a man-of-the-match performance with two goals against Getafe and whilst his goals were the main highlight of the game, Capdevilla's solid defending was also a big feature for the Yellow Submarines.

Eric Abidal - Barcelona

With Carlos Puyol and Dani Alves normally getting the plaudits in defence for Barcelona, the French left-back has brought his versatility to the dominant Catalans and another good outing against Deportivo La Coruna would have impressed French national team coach, Raymond Domenech.

Gonzalo Castro - Mallorca

Castro has been a huge part of Mallorca's wonderful home record of eight wins from eight games at the San Moix. Was quick in the tackle and efficient going forward. One of the Islanders' top performers against Real Zaragoza.

Diego Perrotti - Sevilla

This speedy dynamite is becoming another one in the long illustrious list of fleet-footed wingers that the Sevilla side produce season after season. Started the season as a youngster to look out for but has emerged as one of Manolo Jimenez's most lethal offensive weapons in the last few months.

Jose Antonio Reyes - Atletico Madrid

The former Gunner was left in the cold under Abel Resino but has been given a chance to prove himself this time out and set Diego Forlan up for the visitors' first goal with a stinging cross down the right. Constantly troubled the Xerez defence.

Pablo Hernandez - Valencia

This boy can really play. The Athletic Bilbao defenders could not match his pace. He outshone David Silva as Unai Emery's team clawed back from a one goal deficit to take maximum points. Another star to emerge from the unknown in the La Liga this season.

Sergio Canales - Racing Santander

He is only 18-years-old but his performance in midfield against Espanyol was of a different class altogether. Two goals to help the visitors trash a lacklustre Espanyol side who were stunned beyond belief. Could become a household name in Spanish football for years to come if he continues to improve.

Sergio Aguero - Atletico Madrid

Diego Maradona's son-in-law started the season looking like a mediocre forward but so did the rest of his Atletico team-mates. Is starting to get back to the little dynamite we grew accustomed to last season and his telepathic understanding with strike-partner, Diego Forlan is starting to gel again.

Gonzalo Higuain - Real Madrid

Despite the presence of Raul, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo all vying for the striking berths, Higuain has time and again proved his worth when given his chance to shine and duly did so at the weekend with the Los Merengues' second goal to put the Spanish giants back on course for all three points.

Lionel Messi - Barcelona

The Argentine wizard seems to have finally hit form as his wonderfully-crafted first goal for the Catalans against Deportivo showed. If he maintains the kind of class he showed on Saturday, South Africa in 2010 will be the perfect playground for his majesty.
