Premier League Team of the Week 10

Kelvin Leong salutes Wayne Rooney for an incredible show of maturity in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Birmingham players took most of the plaudits at the weekend as they held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at St Andrews. Cesc Fabregas showed why he is considered one of the best midfielders in football at the moment with two sublime goals despite only coming on as a second-half substitute. And who can forget Rooney's performance against Hull? The England man was absolutely phenomenal both as a player and leader of the team.

Joe Hart - Birmingham

He was the main reason for Chelsea failing to break down a stubborn Birmingham side. Made some incredible saves and had a bloody head to show for. If he maintains this form, he could very well be England's No.1 in South Africa.

Emiliano Insua - Liverpool

The Argentine left-back has steadily improved his game this season and had another solid outing against Wolverhampton. Joined Aurelio on the attack and provided the pinpoint cross to allow Steven Gerrard to open the scoring for Liverpool.

Anthony Gardner - Hull

The Hull City captain shut out Dimitar Berbatov for most of the game and was a towering presence in defence. If only his defensive partner, Kamil Zayatte was as focused as he was.

Roger Johnson - Birmingham

Playing against the club he supports, Johnson managed to cast his emotions aside to deliver one of his best performances to deny the likes of Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge the time and space to trouble Hart in goal.

John Mensah - Sunderland

Had it not been for Mensah, Louis Saha would have been clear on goal on more than one occasion. Strong in his tackles and was the leader at the back for the Black Cats.

Scott Parker - West Ham

Against Portsmouth, Parker was the key figure for the Hammers as they recorded a 2-0 home win to ease their relegation fears. He shielded his defence well and made incisive runs into the box at the other end to provide the extra man when needed.

Sebastian Larsson - Birmingham

He tested Petr Cech with an accurate free-kick and was a constant menace down the right win for Ashley Cole. Worked his socks off and was hauled off looking totally drained. Great job.

Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal

They say great players only need seconds to show their true class. Fabregas did just that when he came on in the second-half against Aston Villa and put two goals past Brad Freidel. The Spaniard needs to stay with the Gunners if Arsene Wenger has any intentions of winning more silverware.

Martin Petrov - Manchester City

The Bulgarian was left to rot on the bench under Mark Hughes' tenure and in his first start under Roberto Mancini, he showed what he was capable of with a sharp finish to give the Italian tactician a winning start at the Eastlands.

Peter Crouch - Tottenham

Crouch did not score against Fulham but had moments where he showed his close control and great awareness. Starting to relegate Robbie Keane further down the line with his performances in the last two months.

Wayne Rooney - Manchester United

His temper has always been a doubt but against Hull, Rooney showed how much he has grown as a player after his error gave the home team an undeserved equaliser. The England striker came storming back and was the creator of United's next two goals to secure a 3-1 win for the Red Devils. Oh, did I mention he scored the first goal?
