The Fans' Voice: Hull's season so far
Hull fans Paul Cockerton and Matt Walsh talk to Eugene YS Han about Hull's season so far in the 2009-10 Premier League.
Up to this point in the season, what is the best or worst your club can achieve this coming season?
Paul Cockerton: The best case scenario for Hull City is to hold on to our key players in the January transfer window, perhaps pick up a shrewd loan signing or two, and of course avoid relegation to secure a third season in the Premier League. At worst, due to the club's finances, we could be selling some of our better players in January and not have the quality to beat the drop.
Matt Walsh: At this stage, the primary goal is retaining our place in the premier league. Currently sitting in the relegation zone, with some crucial games forthcoming, good results now are a must. I don't think Tigers fans can take another final day of drama as happened last season, but it looks like it will end up that way again.
Who is your key player?
Paul Cockerton: It's all about Jimmy Bullard - more specifically about his knee injuries, which have restricted him to just four starts since signing in January. The few games he has played, however, were among the highlights of 2009 with Bullard pulling all the strings in midfield. If he can have an injury-free spell when he returns to the team at the end of January, he may well inspire us to safety.
Matt Walsh: When he is healthy, Jimmy Bullard is our most influential player. It's pretty clear to see the difference in when he is in the side, and when he is missing. That's why we paid so much for him, and we are hoping he is back in action soon.

Who is the unsung hero in your team?
Paul Cockerton: Former England defender Anthony Gardner has proved doubters wrong this season by staying injury-free and being a commanding presence at the back. He needed to deliver after star defender Michael Turner was sold to Sunderland and so far Gardner has been impeccable.
Matt Walsh: Kamil Zayatte may not get all the attention, but he has put in some monster performances at centre back this season. While we have conceded loads of goals this year, it would be even more if he were not in the side. Boaz Myhill and Andy Dawson would also contend for this title.
Which new signing has impressed you most? Which one the least?
Paul Cockerton: There aren't many summer signings who have actually played much in the first team. Three new international attackers - Kamel Ghilas of Algeria, Holland striker Jan Vennegor of Hesselink and America's star player Jozy Altidore - have shown glimpses of quality but haven't had much game time. Senegal defender Ibrahima Sonko has been poor after joining on loan from Stoke.
Matt Walsh: Jozy Altidore has impressed, and while he has yet to score a league goal, his partnership with Craig Fagan is coming along nicely, and the goals will surely follow. In terms of the least impressive, I couldn't say anyone has massively disappointed of the new players, Ghilas, Altidore and Olofinjana have all put in battling performances when asked, and Jan Vennegor of Hesselink has scored some big goals. A few more goals from the three strikers mentioned would be nice.
Which area do you think your team needs strengthening in January?
Paul Cockerton: With new chairman Adam Pearson wanting to balance the books, it's unlikely there will be many new signings in January. The squad is already big enough and so we'll be looking for some fringe players to prove they deserve to be at the club or be sold. But injured stars Jimmy Bullard and Ian Ashbee, the club captain, will feel like new signings when they're back in the team in the next few months.
Matt Walsh: Unfortunately there is no money for strengthening, so we'll have to make do with what we have. A creative attacking midfielder, to complement Jimmy Bullard and Geovanni would be nice, as well as a fullback or two, to perhaps release Bernard Mendy to move further forward.
Young player to look out for?
Paul Cockerton: Jozy Altidore is still a teenager but has already proved a massive hit in the American leagues and on international duty for the US and I'm certain he will be a huge hit the more he adjusts to the Premier League and the goals start to flow. Of the homegrown youngsters, clever midfielder Tom Cairney is threatening to burst into the first team soon.
Matt Walsh: Altidore has impressed for a 20-year-old. He is built like a tank, and has the speed and skill to match. From the academy, Nicky Featherstone, currently on loan to Grimsby, will get into the side eventually, he's a solid forward player.
Where will your club finish this season?
Matt Walsh: 16th, with Altidore and Fagan firing us into another season in the Premier League.
Paul Cockerton: If we finish one place above the relegation zone like last season, Hull City fans will be ecstatic and will look forward to more karaoke on the pitch after the final game from manager Phil Brown.
What can you tell me about your sites?
Matt Walsh: The UK paper the Daily Telegraph rated the Offside one of the top 25 best footie sites on the net, and described us as such: A treasure trove of a site overflowing with blogs, opinion and humour from all four corners of planet football.
Paul Cockerton: The Three O'Clock At Kempton was published as a Hull City fanzine for a few years in the 1990s before switching to becoming an internet site.
