La Liga Team of the Week 11
Kelvin Leong selects a 4-3-3 formation with three Spanish midfielders bossing the midfield in his La Liga Team of the Week 11.
Cesar Sanchez - Valencia
Valencia failed to take three points against relegation candidates Tenerife but anyone who watched the game would agree that the minnows deserved more than a solitary point as they were denied time and again by Sanchez who singlehandedly kept the game at 0-0 for 90 minutes.
Luis Felipe - Deportivo La Coruna
He opened the scoring for the home side but went down with a broken ankle that will probably rule him out for a long time. Felipe has been one of his team's best players over the season and his absence will be missed by a high-flying Deportivo outfit for weeks to come.
Lopo - Deportivo La Coruna
Alongside the impressive Felipe, Lop did his fair share of defensive work by keeping the in-form Atletico Bilbao striker, Llorente quiet all night. His partnership with Felipe is one of the key reasons to Depor's great season.
Joan Capdevilla - Villarreal
Another sublime performance from Capdevilla as the Yellow Submarines handed Zaragoza a 4-2 trouncing on Sunday. For a defender, Capdevilla is becoming one of the most potent goalscoring threats for Villarreal this season. Wonderful player.
Dani Alves - Barcelona
Alves has continued Brazil's legacy of churning out superstar wing-backs who can defend and attack with equal ease. Another brilliant performance from the former Sevilla defender to help Barca take the record of going half the season unbeaten. Is there anything the Catalans can't do!
Xavi - Barcelona
A modern day complete midfielder who dictates play from the middle of the park like an army general at war. He rallies the troops and keeps his team-mates from straying away from their passing game even when the chips are down. Scored Barca's first goal to put three points on the board for the rampant Catalan side.
Xabi Alonso - Real Madrid
Alonso has failed to live up to expectations in the first few months since he returned to the La Liga from Liverpool. Against Malaga on Sunday, the stylish playmaker returned to form as he marshalled the midfield superbly and was involved in every offensive move for the Los Merengues.
Santi Cazorla - Villarreal
The Spanish international has had a stop-start season blighted by injuries but when he does take to the pitch, the winger always produces the goods. His stinging shot came back off the post to give Capdevilla a simple tap-in as the Yellow Submarines secured another win as they continue their surge up the table.
Manu - Getafe
Against his former club Atletico Madrid, the striker was a constant menace with his brilliant movement and quick thinking. After testing David De Gea with a thunderous shot, he flicked the ball in just before half-time to give the home side a deserved lead. Smart thinking.
Alvaro Negredo - Sevilla
Up against his former employers, Negredo scored the only goal of the game to stop Sevilla from sliding further down the league table. It was a comical goal which broke the hearts of Almeria's travelling supporters but no one at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium bothered. Their hitman Negredo has once again saved the day.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid
Love him or hate him, this Portuguese peacock cannot be ignored. His brace showcased his eye for goal as he continues to win over the tough Madrid fans who still think of a certain Zinedine Zidane as their best goalscoring midfielder ever. A red card put a blemish on an otherwise impressive outing.
