Serie A Team of the Week 16

Serie A Team of the Week 16

It was a great weekend for AS Roma and AC Milan to pick up wins as Inter Milan were held to a goalless stalemate by Napoli.

Roma thrashed Palermo 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico, while Milan narrowly edged out Udinese 3-2 as both teams cut the Nerazzurri's lead in the Serie A table to single digits.

Here are the Best XI for the weekend, by the way:

Julio Sergio - AS Roma

The Giallorossi custodian continues his good form in Roma's great run of results. The former third-choice keeper is keeping Doni on the bench with his performances, highlighted by his saves against Mark Bresciano and Edinson Cavani in the Lupi's 4-1 over Palermo.

Guglielmo Stendardo - Lazio

The 28-year-old defender was solid in Edy Reja's debut match, contributing the opening goal from an unstoppable header in the 68th minute, and stopping Jonathan Biabiany from getting an assist on the defensive end as the Biancocelesti rolled to a 2-0 win.

Daniele Gastaldello - Sampdoria

The centre-back made no mistakes as the Blucerchiati flourished, assured by his stable defence at the back, to comfortably beat a slumping Fiorentina 2-0 thanks to goals from Franco Semioli and Giampaolo Pazzini. Gastaldello simply shackled Alberto Gilardino, leaving the striker very much frustrated.

Hugo Campagnaro - Napoli

The Argentine centre-back contained the high-flying Diego Milito as his Napoli side held league-leaders Inter Milan to a 0-0 draw. The Azzurri hit the post on multiple occasions, but none were Campagnaro's fault as he was a rock for them in defence.

Marco Rossi - Genoa

Rossi continued his sparkling form from last week; though his team failed to even secure a draw against Juventus, as the Grifoni fell 3-2 at the Stadio Olimpico. The 31-year-old scored twice, once in the 16th minute, and the other in the 63rd minute after he pounced on Gianluigi Buffon's mistake. The midfielder could have had a third, but that shot bounced off the post.

Matteo Brighi - AS Roma

The Giallorossi enforcer turned goal-getter as he scored twice in Roma's 4-1 thrashing of Palermo. Brighi put in another tireless display in this game, and even added an assist by squaring the ball to Julio Baptista for a simple tap-in in the 53rd minute.

Cristian Ledesma - Lazio

The Argentine maestro may have missed time this season for Lazio, he certainly didn't show it as he dictated the Biancocelesti's attack as if he's played in every game this season. Ledesma masterminded Lazio's 2-0 victory over Parma, and may be the key to a revival for the Aquile.

Andrea Cossu - Cagliari

The playmaker was the recipient of a well-deserved ovation from the Stadio Sant' Elia faithful as he tore apart AS Bari in the Islanders' 3-1 victory. Cossu even scored the goal that put the Galletti away in the 53rd minute, a long-ball that was deflected in by Bari goalie Michael Agazzi!

Alessandro Del Piero - Juventus

The evergreen striker notched his 445th league appearance for Juve against Genoa on Sunday, and promptly scored a brace to celebrate the feat. Del Piero and Diego worked well with each other to score his first in the 61st minute, and the Italian international grabbed the all-important winner in the 78th minute, scoring from the penalty spot to secure Juve a crucial victory.

Ronaldinho - AC Milan

The mercurial playmaker has been experiencing a renaissance of form after the winter break, and he was back to his devastating self against Udinese, as he toyed with the Zebrette with three great passes that led to Milan's 3-2 win. 'Dinho's 39th minute through pass to Pato, in particular, was a joy to watch.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - AC Milan

Are there that many crouching tigers and hidden dragons in the Rossoneri squad? It would seem so as Huntelaar came alive in the game against Udinese in the absence of Marco Borriello and Filippo Inzaghi to bag a brace, staking his claim to play in Milan's Champions League clash against Premier League giants Manchester United on Tuesday.
