Premier League Team of the Week 14

Kelvin Leong hails the dynamism of Aston Villa's 'Double Trouble' down the wings in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Pet Cech - Chelsea

Wolverhampton had better chances than the Blues but every time they caught sight of goal, Cech was there to palm it, save it and basically keep it out. All Cech needs to do is to take that protection head-guard off his head and people will start realising he is still the same solid stopper as before.

Joleon Lescott - Manchester City

Started the season poorly since his move from Everton but has steadily settled into life at the Eastlands. Was calm and composed in defence against Liverpool while also providing the occasional foray into the Reds half.

Valon Behrami - West Ham

The Swiss wing-back is known for his all-action style of play but proved that he had some class in those legs of his when he gave the Hammers the lead against Hull. The early goal seemed to galvanise the team and Behrami went on to put in a solid 90 minutes to help his side secure three points.

Gael Givet - Blackburn Rovers

Rovers seldom win by such an emphatic margin but they did just that against Bolton with a 3-0 scoreline. Givet scored the third goal but it was his defensive stability that caught the eye. Turning out to be a great bargain for Sam Allardyce.

Emmanuel Eboue - Arsenal

The previous season saw Eboue become the joke of the team and incur the ire of the Arsenal fans but this season, he is back to his best. His silky dribbling skill was on show when he took the ball past a few defenders before sliding it across Sunderland's goalmouth for Bendtner to score.

David Bentley - Tottenham

This man is a mystery to most Englishmen who have watched the game long enough. Once touted as the heir to David Beckham's right-wing throne in the England team, he faded into oblivion with his nonchalant attitude since joining Tottenham. Harry Redknapp gave him one last chance with Aaron Lennon out injured and he has shown in the past month just how good he is. Pinpoint crosses and willingness to shoot on sight. Nice!

Jack Rodwell - Everton

Not often do you see Sir Alex Ferguson's midfielders get outplayed in the middle of the park. Against Everton, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher looked ordinary while any of the Toffees' midfield pack could have made it into our Team of the Week. We give it to Rodwell for his wonderful goal which left United no room for a comeback.

Ashley Young - Aston Villa

With him and Downing both looking incredibly good down the wings, who is to say the Villans are not good enough to nail the fourth spot? Young's dribbling gave the Burnley defenders nightmares and his final ball is finally coming together. Pun intended.

Stewart Downing - Aston Villa

Signed by Martin O'Neill even when he was out with an injury but has repaid his manager's faith with his electrifying pace and directness down the flank in recent weeks. More accustomed to supplying assists than goals, England's candidate for the left wing spot netted a brace against Burnley.

Didier Drogba - Chelsea

He vowed to outscore Wayne Rooney this season and the Ivorian hitman has backed up his claims with a wonderful brace against Wolverhampton. His first goal was all about instinct while the second was a showcase of his strength to hold off his marker and the intelligence to take it past the keeper and slot into an empty net.

Bobby Zamora - Fulham

Zamora seems determined to gatecrash Fabio Capello's England team in time for the 2010 World Cup. He failed to shine at Tottenham but has been the Cottagers' top marksman this season. Great targetman who can prove useful when playing alongside a smaller-sized forward.
