Serie A Team of the Week 16
Kelvin Leong is a firm believer that AC Milan's Ronaldinho should go to the World Cup in his Serie A Team of the Week.
Doni - AS Roma
Has lost his place as Roma's numero uno but is starting to rediscover the sort of form that made him one of the most talked about goalkeeping youngsters in recent years. Kept a cleansheet to help Roma to within five points of Inter Milan.
Esteban Cambiasso - Inter Milan
He started the game as the holding midfielder but had to revert to a central defensive role after Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba received their marching orders in a heated game between Inter and Sampdoria. Repelled everything that came into the box and was vocally commanding his troops who looked weary at times.
Lucio - Inter Milan
The Brazilian sweeper was enjoying his rest on the bench but had to rip off his tracksuit and get straight into the action after Samuel and Cordoba decided they wanted to be Hulk Hogans more than footballers. Came on and immediately forged a strong partnership with the stand-in defender Cambiasso.
Thiago Silva - AC Milan
While a lot of Milan's stability relies on the experienced shoulders of Alessandro Nesta, Thiago Silva has come in and shown that he is well capable of keeping Milan's tradition of producing some of the world's best defenders. Was solid in the tackle and alert to all potential threats in the Bari game.
Antonio Nocerino - Palermo
Nocerino deserves to add to his one international cap for Italy and judging by his outstanding performance in Palermo's 3-1 win over a resurgent Lazio outfit, he could be a darkhorse to make it into Marcello Lippi's squad for the reigning world champions.
Andrea Lazzari - Cagliari
Lazzari passed the ball well and created chances for Cagliari throughout the game against Parma. Scored the first goal and Cagliari never looked back from there on.
Juan Manuel Vargas - Fiorentina
The Peruvian footballer is fast becoming a regular in our Team of the Week. Strong in the tackle and creative when on the offensive. Scored Fiorentina's first goal before Alberto Gilardino smashed in the winner. The Florence club are slowly regaining their foothold in Italian football reminiscent of the Gabriel Batistuta days.
Diego - Juventus
The Werder Bremen playmaker has taken a long time to settle in at Juventus but if his performance against Bologna was anything to go by, the real Diego has arrived. His passing was superb and he was ever willing to try his luck in front of goal. Scored an early goal which set the Turin giants on their way to a hard-fought victory.
Mirko Vucinic - AS Roma
Francesco Totti is the ‘Prince of Roma' but Vucinic has been the main reason why Roma are now just five points behind league leaders Inter Milan. His clinical finishing ensured that the Romans continue to press forward in the absence of their talismanic captain.
Robert Acquafresca - Genoa
Acquafresca could be Marcello Lippi's trump card in South Africa. He has always been criticised for being too lightweight to lead the line in attack but he showed just why he was so highly-rated when he first broke onto the scene. Two goals in Genoa's 3-0 win over Udinese.
Ronaldinho - AC Milan
The bucktoothed striker didn't score against Bari but he provided the two assists for Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello to give Milan 2-0 away win. Dinho now has six assists and one goal to his name in the last three games. Surely Dunga must take the reborn playmaker to South Africa.
