Newcastle Jets 2-1 Beijing Guoan
Sean Rooney completed a fightback for the Jets as they defeated Beijing to keep their hopes of reaching the last 16 of the ACL.
The hosts dominated for the vast majority of the match but looked as though they were heading to a defeat when former Jets player Ryan Griffiths struck with 21 minutes remaining.
However, the Jets showed a strong resolve and battered the Beijing defence in pursuit of an equaliser which duly arrived shortly before full time through Sasho Petrovski.
Rooney then completed a fine turnaround when he curled home a superb effort deep in stoppage time to secure the three vital points.
A draw for the Jets in their final game of Group E against Koreans Ulsan Hyundai will be enough to see them through.
The hosts started brightly as Jason Hoffman headed into the hands of Yang Zhi before then failing to make the most of a fine pass from Donny de Groot when the Dutchman's ball over the defence sent the forward clear, but his effort failed to trouble Yang.
Beijing showed they were capable of snatching something as Zhu Yifan's dipping effort whistled just wide of the post just after the hour mark.
The Chinese side then stunned Newcastle in the 69th minute when substitute Yang Yun fed a pass to Griffiths and the Australia international showed a fine turn of pace to shirk off the attention of a defender and coolly slot the ball beyond Ben Kennedy.
The Jets should have levelled soon after when Matt Thompson floated a fine pass to Kaz Patafta free inside the area but the midfielder's turn and shot failed to trouble Yang.
It looked as though former Jets player Griffiths would haunt his old club but Petrovski equalised when he sidefooted home from close range late in normal time.
And the roof of the EnergyAustralia Stadium was lifted off deep in injury time as the Jets snatched a stunning winner with practically the last kick of the game.
With the hosts pouring forward in the final seconds Ljubo Milicevic fed a pass to Rooney on the edge of the area and the 20-year-old curled a fine effort into the top corner of the net to seal the three points.
