Renato at peace with pre-season

Renato Dirnei is in optimistic mood for next season despite Sevilla's disappointing showing at the Peace Cup.

Even though they were one of the host teams for the pre-season tournament, Sevilla failed to get beyond the group stages after losing 2-1 to Juventus last Friday and then being held to a goalless draw by Seongnam on Sunday.

That meant Manolo Jimenez's side missed out on a potential semi-final showdown against big-spending Primera Liga rivals Real Madrid at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Friday, with the capital club now facing Juventus in that match, but Renato insists there is no reason for any doom and gloom at the club.

"The squad is working well, with the same ambition to do something great. There are practically two players for every place now and we have the level to do something good this season," said Renato, who helped Sevilla finish third last term.

"The Peace Cup was a nice tournament, with Champions League sides in it, and the team were fully dedicated to the competition. But we need to turn the page.

"Now we have a game against Lyon (tomorrow) where we will try to do things well to gain confidence. The start of pre-season is always like that."

Meanwhile, Sevilla have announced winger Jesus Navas will be sidelined for around three weeks with an ankle problem.
