A-League Weekend Preview
Sydney head to Adelaide Friday night looking to secure a third successive win and extend their lead at the top of the A-League.
Vitezslav Lavicka's side put in arguably their best performance of the season last weekend with a 3-0 win at Melbourne Victory and will be keen to continue that momentum against the Reds at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Reds captain Travis Dodd is sidelined with a calf strain and Lucas Pantelis is managing a knee problem but has been overlooked despite completing training this week, although Paul Reid and Daniel Mullen are available.
"They're a very strong team Adelaide, they've proven that over the A-League history, they're always there or thereabouts come finals time," said Sydney midfielder Terry McFlynn.
"They're always a danger but it's up to us to stay focused on the job at hand."
On Saturday, Brisbane Roar will look to put behind them a difficult week when they entertain Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium.
The Roar dismissed coach Frank Farina yesterday after the former Socceroo coach was charged with drink-driving last Saturday.
Rado Vidosic has taken over on a temporary basis while the club search for a full-time replacement he is confident the players will be able to put behind them the off-field distractions.
"It was hard for them to learn about Frank not being part of our future anymore, just before the training session," Vidosic said.
"But today, to their credit, they did much, much better and I hope they're just going to build on that tomorrow and, fingers crossed, we're going to perform well on Saturday."
North Queensland Fury will be hoping to finally move off the bottom of the table when they host Wellington Phoenix at Bluetongue Stadium.
The Fury have yet to win on home soil while Phoenix have drawn their last five games and Robbie Fowler believes they will soon get the result their recent performances deserve.
"We've been playing pretty well in the last five to six weeks and it's there for everybody to see we're going the right way," said the former Liverpool and England striker.
"The table is incredibly tight, there's only nine points from top to bottom so it's not insurmountable."
On Sunday, second-placed Gold Coast United will look to capitalise on any slip up from Sydney as they look to recapture their early season form with a win over third-placed Perth Glory, who could also jump to the top of the table with a win.
After blistering start to the campaign, Gold Coast's form dipped and they went four games without a victory before finally getting back to winning ways with a 1-0 win at Brisbane last weekend.
Those three points mean they currently trail Sydney by two points and with star striker Shane Smeltz back from international duty and influential defender Andy Todd suspended for Perth, the hosts will be confident of a second successive win.
Finally on Sunday, fourth-placed Melbourne will need three points to keep in touch with the pacesetters but will find them difficult to come by against a strong Newcastle Jets side at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
The Jets are second bottom of the standings with nine points but, having had the luxury of a weekend off in round 10, they will be in good shape against Victory as they look to build on last weekend's promising 1-1 draw with Adelaide.
