New England Revolution v Los Angeles Galaxy

Donovan shortlisted for MVP

United States international Landon Donovan was named as one of three finalists for the Major League Soccer's most valuable player award.

Twenty-seven-year-old forward Donovan, of the Los Angeles Galaxy, is vying for the honour with FC Dallas star Jeff Cunningham and the New England Revolution's Shalrie Joseph.

The Seattle Sounders will provide the newcomer of the year prize-winner, with all three contenders coming from the club. Freddie Ljungberg, Kasey Keller and Fredy Montero are the players in the running for the honour.

The Sounders' Sigi Schmid has also been shortlisted for the coach of the year award, along with LA Galaxy's Bruce Arena and the Columbus Crew's Robert Warzycha.
