Breeze gets Champions League nod

Australian Matthew Breeze will referee Saturday's AFC Champions League final between Al Ittihad and Pohang Steelers in Tokyo.

Australians Matthew Cream and Ben Wilson will be the assistant referees, while compatriot Peter Green will be the fourth official at the National Stadium.

A FIFA referee since 2001, Breeze has officiated at the past two FIFA Confederations Cups in Germany and South Africa, and has refereed the third-place playoff each time. The 37-year-old was also one of two Australian referees at the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.

Breeze, a police officer, was a referee in Australia's former National Soccer League and has officiated in the A-League since its inception in 2005. He took charge at this year's A-League Grand Final between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United, who will both compete in next year's AFC Champions League.
