Troglio keen to make history

Cerro Porteno coach Pedro Troglio can make history when he faces Brazilian giants Fluminense in Copa Sudamericana semi-final.

The Paraguayan side have never won an international club championship and Argentina-born Troglio is sure his team are good enough to overcome the Brazilian outfit and reach the final.

"We are about to enter the history books," he said. "We are very close to glory and we must not let go of the opportunity.

"The commitment is there - we want to win an international championship."

Troglio has some injury doubts as midfielder Julio Irrazabal (muscle strain) and striker Roberto Nanni (back) have been unable to train normally recently.

Fluminense are surprise semi-finalists as they are fighting against relegation in the Brazilian league. They head into the game after beating former league leaders Palmeiras last weekend.

Flu coach Cuca admitted the players are jaded from the number of games they have played recently and the pressure they are under.

However, he is sure they are ready to fight for the international title.

"If last year we fought to reach the Copa Libertadores final, we will not miss this opportunity," Cuca said.

Forward Fred, who scored the winner against Palmeiras, added: "We are all together and we are sure we can get away from this bad situation and conquer the Copa Sudamericana title."

Argentinian referee Hector Baldassi has been questioned by Fluminense, who sent an official complaint to the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) as they believe Baldassi was not impartial in the 2008 Copa Libertadores final against Liga Deportiva Universitaria of Ecuador.

Conmebol spokesman Nestor Benitez informed: "The Confederation define the referees considered the best prepared for each match. We hope we'll watch a great game and both Fluminense and Cerro will make their sporting history worthy."

The other semi-final tie will see River Plate of Uruguay host Liga Deportiva Universitaria on Thursday in Montevideo.
