The New York Red Bulls are to host a four-team international tournament next summer at its new stadium.

The event at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey will be a sister tournament to existing Football World Series competitions in Amsterdam, Dubai and Shanghai which have in previous years hosted top clubs including AC Milan, Manchester United, Barcelona and Boca Juniors.

The MLS club and Football World Series organisers announced a multi-year agreement that will see Red Bull Arena serve as one of the annual sites for the tournament.

Erik Stover, managing director of Red Bull New York, said: "Bringing the Football World Series to Red Bull Arena fulfills one our commitments of bringing top international matches to the New York area.

"Having the Red Bulls participate in the tournament will give us the opportunity to compete against some of the top clubs in the world."

Set to open on March 27 when the Red Bulls play their home opener of the 2010 MLS season, Red Bull Arena is a soccer-specific, 25,000-seat venue with a natural grass playing surface.

The Red Bulls had previously occupied nearby Giants Stadium, which has hosted pre-season friendlies in the past with Manchester United, Barcelona and Celtic among the frequent visitors to play on its artificial surface.

"We are pleased to welcome Red Bull New York to Football World Series as we see the United States as an integral part of our global expansion plans," Football World Series chief executive Bill Miles said.

"We are delighted to be staging one of our tournaments in the exciting and vibrant metropolitan New York area."

Club officials said final dates and participating clubs will be announced early in 2010.
