Barcelona president Joan Laporta has stated that Pep Guardiola must not be rushed into signing a contract extension.

Laporta, however, did express that his current coach is the best one for the job.

Guardiola guided Barca to a six-trophy haul in the past eighteen months and La Blaugrana is keen to extend their former midfielder, as his current deal ends this offseason.

"Guardiola, who assumed full responsibility for the elimination from the Copa del Rey, is a locker room leader, with strong leadership skills," Laporta told Marca. "He is the key factor."

"The players, employees, directors, president and the whole of Barcelona are with him."

"We have stated our determination to get him to renew as he is the best coach this team could have."

"He should take time to decide and reflect so he can end up taking the best decision for Barca because he always puts the interests of the club ahead of everyone else."
