Schuster: Real players did not want Villa

Former Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has said many players in his team did not want David Villa to come to the Bernabeu.

Schuster was coach of Real Madrid from July 2007 to December 2008 - during which period the Spanish giants were heavily linked with a move for striker Villa.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca, Schuster revealed that a number of players in his squad did not want Villa in the team.

"I would have brought Villa, but there were a lot of people who did not want him to come," he said.

When prompted by someone if it was captain Raul who did not want the Valencia striker, Schuster replied with a revealing "I have a cough."

Commenting on the current Real squad, Schuster said Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player worth watching in the team.

"There was a time I used to love watching Real Madrid for Zidane. Now I only watch them because Ronaldo is playing. Without him Madrid would be a sleeping pill. If he were not in the squad, the other players would not make any difference in the match."
