Italian Serie A Saturday Review

Napoli were beaten 3-1 at home as Fiorentina recovered from their Champions League disappointment against Bayern Munich.

Ezequiel Lavezzi put Napoli on course for what looked like an easy win for the home side in the 47th minute, but shortly after they were denied a clear penalty, Fiorentina turned the game on its head.

Two goals from Alberto Gilardino and a third from Stevan Jovetic in stoppage time earned the Viola a win which lifts them to within a point of ninth-placed Genoa and back in the hunt for a place in Europe next season.

Napoli had not lost any of their last 42 home matches which have taken place under the floodlights at the Stadio San Paolo.

On Friday night Catania threw the title race open and took a giant step towards securing their own future in the top flight by beating 10-man Inter Milan 3-1.

Diego Milito put the Nerazzurri in front in the 54th minute, but Catania refused to accept defeat and Maxi Lopez equalised 20 minutes later.

Sulley Muntari was sent off after only two minutes on the field as he gave away a penalty which was converted by Giuseppe Mascara in the 81st minute.

And Jorge Martinez sealed a deserved and important win for the Rosazzurri in the last minute as Inter showed weaknesses ahead of their trip to Chelsea in the Champions League next week.
