English Championship Weekend Preview

A look at all the upcoming matches in the npower English Championship. Current position indicated in brackets.

Bristol City (22) v Barnsley (15)

Louis Carey may return for City after a heel injury but the game comes too soon for Kalifa Cisse, who is back in training following a thigh problem. Christian Ribeiro (back) could figure but Danny Haynes (groin and thigh), Sam Vokes (hamstring), Nicky Maynard (knee), Lewin Nyatanga and James Wilson remain sidelined.

Barnsley are expected to be without Jim O'Brien (thigh) and Goran Lovre. Lovre, signed from FC Groningen in June, suffered a whiplash-type injury after being knocked out against Crystal Palace last week.

Burnley (8) v Leicester (17)

Burnley will be without defender David Edgar following his dismissal in last weekend's draw at Ipswich. Tyrone Mears is expected to recover from a shin injury and fill the right-back slot but defender Michael Duff remains sidelined with a calf injury.

Paulo Sousa has no new problems as he looks for his first league win as Leicester manager. Fellow Portuguese Miguel Vitor (thigh) remains a doubt after suffering a recurrence of a thigh injury last week.

Cardiff (7) v Doncaster (5)

Craig Bellamy is poised to make his Cardiff debut and his availability could see boss Dave Jones switch to a 4-3-3 formation, with the Wales international joining Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd in the three-pronged attack. Stephen McPhail (cartilage) is not yet ready to return and Aaron Wildig misses out with a knee problem but Jason Koumas could claim a place on the bench.

New Doncaster defender Wayne Thomas could make his full debut but Rovers may be without James Hayter (hamstring) again. James Coppinger is pushing for a return to the starting line-up.

Coventry (3) v Derby (11)

Clive Platt and Aron Gunnarsson are pushing for starts for Coventry after coming off the bench to spark the comeback in last week's 2-2 draw at Watford.

Conor Doyle is in the frame to make his first start for Derby. Tomasz Cywka fractured his cheekbone in the defeat to Cardiff last weekend and is expected to miss out, which means Doyle could get the nod.

Crystal Palace (10) v Ipswich (4)

Neil Danns is in line to return to the Palace starting line-up, after appearing on the bench during last weekend's defeat at Barnsley having been banned for the first two games of the season. The Eagles have no new injury worries with winger Sean Scannell and defender Lee Hills (both knee) the only absentees.

Defender Darren O'Dea could make his debut for Ipswich after joining on loan from Celtic while Tottenham winger Andros Townsend impressed last week and should keep his place. Grant Leadbitter (ankle) is a doubt but centre-half Gareth McAuley (back) has recovered.

Hull (14) v Watford (6)

Jay Simpson has been added to the Hull squad after joining the Tigers from Arsenal yesterday. Slovenia captain Robert Koren could also make his full debut.

Watford manager Malky Mackay has no fresh injury concerns. Back-up goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin is the only injured player so academy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond will again be on the bench as cover for Scott Loach.

Leeds (16) v Millwall (1)

Leeds striker Davide Somma returns to contention following a three-game suspension incurred at the end of last season. Summer signing Billy Paynter (shin) is still waiting to make his competitive debut.

Millwall defender Scott Barron (ankle) is rated 50-50 by manager Kenny Jackett. With Tony Craig (foot) still recovering, Jack Smith or summer signing Tamika Mkandawire will step in if Barron is ruled out.

Norwich (12) v Swansea (9)

Canaries boss Paul Lambert will name an unchanged squad. Grant Holt will continue to be partnered in attack by Chris Martin, so summer signing Simeon Jackson must again settle for a place on the bench.

Swansea are without Gorka Pintado after the striker underwent shoulder surgery. Winger Nathan Dyer could return from a leg injury but Stephen Dobbie and Shefki Kuqi are the Welsh club's only fully fit strikers.

Preston (24) v Portsmouth (21)

Preston are set to be boosted by the return of Sean St Ledger from a hamstring injury. Fellow centre-back Wayne Brown (hip), a summer signing from Leicester, has yet to make a league appearance for the home side.

John Utaka (hamstring) is an injury doubt for Portsmouth but fellow forward Tommy Smith could return from a hip injury. South African international defender Aaron Mokoena is available again.

QPR (2) v Scunthorpe (13)

QPR are still waiting on the fitness of midfielder Akos Buzsaky (thigh). Centre-half Fitz Hall limped out of last weekend's 3-0 win at Sheffield United and was replaced by Peter Ramage but is expected to be fit.

United boss Nigel Adkins is boosted by the return of defender Sam Togwell from a one-match ban. Midfield duo Michael O'Connor and Josh Wright have been passed fit. Defender Trent McClenahan, who recently joined on a short-term deal until January, is hoping to make his first senior appearance for the club.

Reading (18) v Nottm Forest (19)

Reading midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson may fill in at centre-half again if Matt Mills (ankle) is not fit, although the defender is close to return. Club captain Ivar Ingimarsson (hamstring) missed a run-out for the reserves and midfielder Jay Tabb (ankle) is out but striker Shane Long (hip) could figure.

Chris Gunter is suspended for Forest. Long-term injury victim David McGoldrick (shoulder) aside, boss Billy Davies has an otherwise full squad to choose from as Forest look for their first win of the season.

Middlesbrough (20) v Sheff Utd (23)

Boro hope to have central defender Matthew Kilgallon in the squad by finalising the 26-year-old's loan switch from Sunderland. Skipper Gary O'Neil is struggling with illness and a knee problem while defender Seb Hines has suffered a reaction following his return from an ankle injury.

Blades boss Gary Speed is poised to make changes for his first game in charge. Striker Darius Henderson and defender Ryan France (both knee) and midfielder Lee Williamson (back) are out but Nyron Nosworthy is unlikely to be included despite an unspecified knock.
