The BBC confirmed they will express their disappointment to the Premier League over Manchester United's media blackout.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson refused to perform any media engagements after watching his side slip to a 3-1 loss at Anfield yesterday, with senior club officials furious that Jamie Carragher was only given a caution by referee Phil Dowd for a challenge on Nani that left the winger with a bad gash to his leg.

Ferguson declined to speak with host broadcaster Sky Sports, either before or after his side's third Premier League defeat of the season, while his assistant Mike Phelan did not carry out his usual post-match engagements with the BBC, arranged due to Ferguson's long-standing feud with the organisation.

Radio rights holders TalkSPORT were also left without any comment from the visitors.

United could face punishment over the blackout, although the suggestion is they would only do so if a complaint against them is made by either Sky, TalkSPORT or the BBC.

And although the latter plans to raise the issue with the Premier League, it will not be an official complaint from the broadcasters.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "We are disappointed that they did not speak to us and we will be speaking to the Premier League."
