Mexico 4-0 Peru
Fernando Arce netted two goals as Mexico wrapped up preparations for their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-0 demolition of Peru in an international friendly on Sunday.
Mexico were looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat to Argentina in San Diego on Wednesday and Jesus Ramirez's side made a superb start with Arce heading home a Luis Perez cross after only five minutes.
Deportivo La Coruna winger Andres Guardado extended the lead three minutes later, turning in Ricardo Osorio's low cross from the right and Carlos Vela capitalised on an error by Peru goalkeeper George Forsyth to make it 3-0 in the 21st minute.
Six minutes later, Guardado went down the left flank and crossed to Arce, who took his time to control the ball before firing home his second of the game.
Mexico had opportunities to extend their advantage and went close in the second half when Carlos Salcido headed a corner by Arce against the crossbar.
The rebound fell to Aaron Galindo who headed the ball on target only to be denied by an excellent save by the Peru goalkeeper.
Mexico will begin their road to South Africa with a match against Belize in Houston next Sunday.
Interim coach Ramirez will remain in charge for that game and the return match in Monterrey the following week before handing over the position to new coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Meanwhile, Peru face Colombia in Lima next Saturday in the fifth round of South American qualifying games.
