Rivaldo to seal Uzbek deal

Brazilian Rivaldo will arrive in Tashkent on Wednesday to officially complete his move to Uzbek League leaders Bunyodkor.

Bunyodkor, formerly known as Kuruvchi, will unveil the 2002 World Cup winner at a press conference after the forward's contract with Greek Super League side AEK Athens was terminated by mutual consent.

Rivaldo, the World and European player of the year in 1999, is believed to have been lured to Uzbekistan by a lucrative contract.

The 36-year-old told Bunyodkor's website - which is still under the club's former name - www.pfc-kuruvchi.com: "I have arrived here to show the Brazilian football. And I shall be glad if my experience and my skill will help the further development of the Uzbek football."

Earlier this summer, Bunyodkor sensationally claimed to have signed Samuel Eto'o, but what would have been one of the most surprising transfers of all time was never confirmed and the Cameroon striker remains at Barcelona.

The capture of Rivaldo, however, is sure to strengthen their bid for domestic and continental success in the Asian Champions League.

Bunyodkor meet Iran's Saipa in the last eight of the Champions League next month.
