Carlos Tevez believes Argentina can make history under newly-appointed coach and former legend Diego Maradona.

Maradona took charge of his first game last night as the Albicelestes beat Scotland 1-0 in Glasgow.

Tevez, who started the game, believes his team-mates are excited to play for Maradona and are ready to compete at the highest level.

"A new stage has begun and the team have started in the direction we want to go to make history," the Manchester United forward told Buenos Aires radio station Radio 10.

"We only trained on Monday and Tuesday. It's not much, but these days were very useful to raise the mood of the guys. The will to win was back thanks to Diego.

"I am very happy with Diego's debut as coach. He can do very special things for us, and give us confidence."
