Bayern Munich frontman Lukas Podolski believes he was wrong to trust the promises he claims the club made to him last summer.

The Germany striker is unhappy with his lack of first-team chances and has been persistently linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena. He was expected to find a new club last summer, but stayed in the belief he might get more opportunities under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann, whom he played under in the national team.

"I had faith in their words and their promises. I was wrong. In future I won't make the same mistakes," he told Italian newspaper Il Tempo.

Bayern manager UIi Hoeness now hopes Podolski's future can be sorted out by the end of the month.

Podolski looks most likely to move at the end of the season rather than in the current transfer window, but Hoeness does not want the saga to drag on that long.

"However it should be decided, it would be good for us if it happened by the end of January so the speculation will stop and he can concentrate on Bayern," Hoeness told the club's official website.

"We want a clear front by January 31."

Hoeness warned, though, that Bayern would not let Podolski go on the cheap though, adding: "To all those who believe that they are going to get Lukas at a bargain, I have to issue a clear refusal."

The most likely of those potential suitors look to be former club Cologne, but Italian side Roma have also emerged as a possible destination.

"I have said I want to leave as soon as possible. But if I have to continue playing in the Bundesliga I want to do so with Cologne," Podolski added. "If not, then I want to move to a club who will give me the chance to have a run in the team, exactly the opposite of what happened at Munich."
