England soar to seventh place

England have moved up two places to seventh in the latest FIFA world rankings thanks to a series of good results.

The rise comes on the back of a 4-0 friendly victory over Slovakia and a World Cup qualifying win over Ukraine at Wembley recently.

However, Fabio Capello's side still have some way to go to catch runaway top side Spain, who are now unbeaten in 31 matches and a record 350 points ahead of Germany.

Holland are third in the rankings with Brazil up to fourth at the expense of Italy, but Argentina remain sixth despite their 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Bolivia.

Scotland moved up four places to 24th, Northern Ireland climbed 15 places to 27th after victories over Poland and Slovenia but the Republic of Ireland dropped eight places to 34th.

Wales fell five places to 73rd after home defeats to Finland and Germany.
