AZ Alkmaar chairman Dirk Scheringa has dismissed talk of Louis van Gaal leaving the newly-crowned Dutch champions.

Scheringa is sure he will not join Bayern Munich after describing him as "a man of principle"

Reports in Germany have suggested Van Gaal is the man Bayern have earmarked to replace Jurgen Klinsmann but Scheringa is determined not to lose the mastermind of AZ's first Eredivisie title since 1981.

"The players and the board want to enter the Champions League with Louis van Gaal," Scheringa told Sportweek.

"Louis has a contract until June 2010 and we will keep him to that.

"We have not been approached by Bayern Munich and Louis has not told us he wants out of his contract.

"If he did come to us with such a request then we would say no."

Van Gaal has also been linked with Premier League strugglers Sunderland and with taking over as coach of Belgium.

And while Scheringa would consider a part-time role for Van Gaal with a national team, he insists a move to another club side is out of the question.

He added: "A scenario in which he leads a national team as well as AZ, such as Belgium, is open to debate for us but a transfer to another club is not.

"I am not afraid of him leaving because Van Gaal is a man of principle who always keeps to his contracts and serves them out."

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted experience is likely to be a key factor when they appoint a new coach.

"When you look around Europe, you notice a trend of experienced coaches who are of a certain age," Rummenigge told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"Look at Guus Hiddink, for example, who I think is 62, Alex Ferguson is 67, Arsene Wenger 60.

"The elder coaches with a lot of experience are in fashion."

Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer is also a fan of former Ajax, Barcelona and Holland boss Van Gaal.

"He has proven himself often already, with the Dutch national team, Barcelona and Ajax," he said.
