Maradona back to his roots
Diego Maradona has named his entire Argentina squad with only local-based players for the friendly against Panama.
Colon defender Sebastian Prediger is one of the players to have benefited from Argentina coach Diego Maradona's decision to call up a squad exclusively of players based in the Argentinian league for the friendly international against Panama on May 20.
The 22-year-old joins 20 other locally-based players after the decision was taken not to include any player based overseas for the game due to the fact that the match is not being played on a date set aside by FIFA for international games.
Maradona has also decided not to include players from Argentinian sides Boca Juniors and Estudiantes as these clubs are involved in the Copa Libertadores.
The Argentina-based players who will be unable to join the Albicelestes are Estudiantes keeper Mariano Andujar, defender Marcos Angelleri and midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, as well as Boca Juniors defenders Juan Forlin and Ezequiel Munoz, midfielder Sebastian Battaglia and striker Martin Palermo.
Prediger, who has played 44 matches for Colon and scored three goals, will therefore get his first call-up to the full national side, along with Colon team-mates goalkeeper Diego Pozo and defender Alexis Ferrero.
"I still cannot believe it. It is the dream every player has and I am tremendously happy," Prediger told Radio LT10.
"(Colon coach Antonio) Mohamed told me I was going to be called for the national team. I am delighted."
The match will be played at the Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao Lopez in Santa Fe.
