Caen vs Sochaux Preview

Caen are drinking at the last-chance saloon as they head into what is surely a must-win relegation six-pointer at home to Sochaux Saturday.

The Normandy club slipped back into the bottom three as a result of their 1-0 defeat at Rennes on Wednesday, coupled with wins for relegation rivals St Etienne and Sochaux on the same night.

With matches to come against Lyon and Bordeaux, two of the league's leading three teams, Caen coach Franck Dumas knows this weekend represents his side's most likely chance of picking up points between now and the end of the season.

He appreciates the tough situation Caen are in, saying: "We are still in huge trouble - it has been like that for five months.

"We have to lift our heads and dive back in there. It's going to be like that until the end of the season."

Sochaux have a much easier run-in than Caen and second-bottom Nantes, so losing tomorrow would not be a disaster for the Montbeliard side.

They will be buoyant after their 3-0 thrashing of Monaco on Wednesday, which brought an emphatic end to their four-match winless run and lifted them up to 16th place.

"The pressure will be more on Caen," said Sochaux defender Damien Perquis.

"We are going to go there wary but also confident because of the way we played against Monaco."

Sochaux have no new injury worries but coach Francis Gillot could freshen up his side for their second game in four days.

"Some guys who didn't play on Wednesday could be used," said assistant coach Alain Benedet.

Gregory Proment (knee) is a doubt for Caen.
