Lanus go first in Argentina

Lanus climbed into the top spot in the Clausura standings after coming from behind to beat Rosario Central in a round 14 game.

Defender Pablo Lima broke the deadlock for the visitors when he converted a free-kick after 18 minutes.

But midfielder Sebastian Blanco put Lanus back on level terns early in the second half and Diego Lagos headed home Blanco's cross in the 70th minute to give the home side the three points.

The win sent Lanus up to 28 points, one ahead of Velez Sarsfield, who visit Gimnasia La Plata on Saturday.

In Friday's only other game, Godoy Cruz picked up three vital points in their battle to avoid relegation with a 4-2 away win against Argentinos Juniors.

The Mendoza side opened the scoring after only five minutes when Leandro Caruso latched on to a header by Ivan Borhello to score from close range.

Caruso doubled the advantage on a counterattack early in the second half but Argentinos forward Gabriel Hauche pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute.

Victor Figueroa made it 3-1 from the penalty spot six minutes later but yet again the home side hit back with defender Ignacio Canuto turning in a loose ball in the 72nd minute.

But the visitors would finally put the match away with five minutes remaining as Caruso's through pass set up Figueroa, who netted his second of the night.
