Gerets to manage Al Hilal
Outgoing Marseille coach Eric Gerets has confirmed he has agreed to manage Al Hilal next season.
Gerets, who announced at the end of last month he would not be renewing his contract at OM, replaces fellow Belgian Georges Leekens who was sacked at the beginning of May after just a month in charge.
The 55-year-old has revealed the Saudi Arabian club have been after him for the past two months and that once he had decided to leave the Stade Velodrome it was an easy decision.
"First of all because I got an immediate good feeling with them," Gerets told France Football. "Very quickly.
"They put an enormous amount of pressure on me as they wanted me to join them even in mid-March. I made them understand that that wasn't at all possible.
"As they accepted my situation and they continued to repeat to me that they would do everything to make me come, I ended up deciding."
Reports suggest Gerets will be earning around 250,000 euros a month and, while the former Galatasaray coach admits that played a part in his decision, he insists it was not the sole reason.
"Of course I'm going for the money," he added. "I'm not a liar, the financial security offered mattered.
"I received loads of offers, some even more financially interesting than that which I will have there.
"I'm not going there to retire. I will be very ambitious."
Gerets, who claimed last month he had not been fully supported by club owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus, also spoke briefly about his reasons for leaving Marseille.
"There was a misunderstanding (with the Marseille directors)," he continued. "We didn't manage to come together in time, that's all.
"I was ready to commit myself for the duration, I even saw myself buying a house here.
"I just wanted a strong sign. It never came."
